This is my choice project. It is a bowl/vase and is 6 inches tall by 5 inches wide. It is a wide vase that is very open so that my family can put things in it. It is glazed by dunking in blue and then dunking the top half in green so that the blue glaze stands out more in the bottom of the project. It is smooth all the way down with no rough patches. Something I learned from this project was how to evenly pull the walls so that every side of the project has an even thickness. I have now used this skill to create even walls on my other projects. This project shows color by the gradual change in shade as your eyes move down the project which leads to movement because the glaze looks like its falling down and changing color as it flows downward. This project makes me feel excited because it is big, open, and colorful and looks inviting.

This is my lidded project. It is 5 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide. It is smooth all the way down except for the lip where the lid meets the rest of the project. I glazed it by dunking the project in scrap green and giving it more of a plain and simple look. A new skill I learned was how to make a lid which I did for the first time during this project. By throwing a small piece of clay and making a planter type shape you can measure a lid that is the same dimensions as the other portion of the project. This project shows shape because of the curved lines which leads to rhythm because the whole project looks like it flows together. This project makes me feel proud because I never thought I could make a lid and have the project come together the way it did. This is cup with pulled handle project. It is 4.5 inches tall by 4 inches wide. It is a little rough on the sides because the glaze coat wasn't very thick, but I think that gives it character. I glazed it by using pink, red, and yellow bottle glazes and creating a vertical stripes pattern on the outside and a ring pattern on the inside. A new skill I learned would be pulling the handle because I wasn't very good at it last year and this year I was able to make one that was sturdier and smoother by pulling the wet clay evenly with my hand. I think this cup shows color because of the vibrant tones and shades that we are not used to. This leads to contrast in the light and dark shades reflecting off of one another. This cup makes me feel excited because there is so much going on in one little space and it has a very crazy look to it. This is my planter project. It is 4 inches tall by 6 inches wide. It is mostly smooth all around except for the lip at the bottom. It is blue and green and has a fading technique in the center. I glazed it by dunking it in dark blue and then the darker parts fell to the bottom of the project making it look like a waterfall of color. A new skill I learned was how to create a lip at the bottom of the project instead of at the top which I am used to. By pushing into the bottom of the project you can make the clay come out into a flat shape. This project shows shape by the curved bowl shape in the middle and plate like shape on the outside, which leads to scale in the project because the bowl and the lip are proportional to one another. The importance of this project is it makes me feel calm because the fading in the glaze looks relaxing and put together.
This is my vase. It is 3.5 inches tall by 3 inches wide. It is glazed with white and black glazes. It is smooth all the way down. I glazed it by dunking it in white glaze and then dripping down black glaze on the outside and the lip part of the inside and then dripping black dots on the bottom of the project. This project helped me to learn how to create a lip without the project breaking and I did this by choking the project until it formed a distinct lip. This vase shows line by the direction the glaze is falling which leads to pattern in the repetition of the drips. This project makes me feel like I am on a wildlife safari because it looks very African and rustic.
This is my bowl 2 project. It was made with forest cobalt and scrap green. It is 2.5'' tall by 4.5'' wide. It is mostly smooth on all edges and rounded. I glazed it by dunking one side diagonally in one color and then the other side in the other color to create an abstract look. A new skill I learned from this project is how to turn what looks like a cylinder into a bowl by pulling the walls outward to create a more open look. I believe the glazing shows value because of the two different colors and then the overlap of the two colors blending together. This leads to contrast because the two different colors show two different sides of the bowl. This bowl makes me feel proud because it is even and smooth and the colors are vivid and bright. This is my bowl 1 project. It is 3 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide. I made it by evenly pulling the walls out on the wheel and trimming the top off to make it even. I glazed it by dunking it in white and then dripping scrap green over it. This project helped me learn how to create a more rounded shape within my project and give it more of a curved look. I think this project shows line because the drips in the glaze lead your eye from the top of the project to the bottom and give the project more of a direction. The line shown in the glaze leads to rhythm in the project because it flows nicely and looks put together. This project makes me feel relaxed because drips look soothing and nothing really pops out so it comes off quiet and calm.
This is our group coil project. It is 6 inches tall by 5 inches wide. It was made by using a pinch pot as the base and then stacking different types of coils on top to give it height and flare. We glazed it using cobalt for the pieces that stuck out and white as a base color. A new skill I learned from this project is how to even out the walls of a pinch pot so that there are no cracks or creases. I think the different types of coils show space in the project which are set up in a pattern, because every open area is spaced out evenly. This project was made for Mr.Mulligan, who is a math teacher at our school. The project makes me feel proud because our teacher really loved it and me and my teammates worked together well on it.
This is my tall cylinder project. It is 3 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide. It is glazed by dunking it upside down in scrap green and then dripping blue over which didn't show up. I learned to center the clay easier and faster by putting even pressure with my top and side hand. My tall cylinder shows value because of the light and dark colors in the glaze which leads to balance of the multiple colors evening each other out. I am not very happy with this cylinder because it was my first project of the year and I was still getting back into the swing of things. I think the importance of my cylinder is it has a sad feeling like it isn't complete because the glaze is spotty in some areas and didn't get an even coat.
This is my spooky trees painting. The art elements in it are line, value, shape, space, color, and texture. The design elements in it are contrast, movement, pattern, emphasis, proportion, and unity. The intent of the project is to show a Disney scene of trees. They were supposed to be scary trees but I added a little happy vibe to them. I also used some skills including stippling, and shading. I am overall very happy with this painting. One of my favorites. |
